Lesung aus dem Buch Jesaja:
Wie der Herr in früherer Zeit
das Land Sebulon und das Land Naftali verachtet hat,
so hat er später
den Weg am Meer zu Ehren gebracht,
das Land jenseits des Jordan, das Gebiet der Nationen.
Das Volk, das in der Finsternis ging,
sah ein helles Licht;
über denen, die im Land des Todesschattens wohnten,
strahlte ein Licht auf.
Du mehrtest die Nation,
schenktest ihr große Freude.
Man freute sich vor deinem Angesicht,
wie man sich freut bei der Ernte,
wie man jubelt, wenn Beute verteilt wird.
Denn sein drückendes Joch
und den Stab auf seiner Schulter,
den Stock seines Antreibers zerbrachst du
wie am Tag von Midian.

2. Lesung
Lesung aus dem ersten Brief des Apostels Paulus
an die Gemeinde in Korinth.
Ich ermahne euch aber, Schwestern und Brüder,
im Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus:
Seid alle einmütig
und duldet keine Spaltungen unter euch;
seid vielmehr eines Sinnes und einer Meinung!
Es wurde mir nämlich, meine Brüder und Schwestern,
von den Leuten der Chloë berichtet,
dass es Streitigkeiten unter euch gibt.
Ich meine damit, dass jeder von euch etwas anderes sagt:
Ich halte zu Paulus –
ich zu Apollos –
ich zu Kephas –
ich zu Christus.
Ist denn Christus zerteilt?
Wurde etwa Paulus für euch gekreuzigt?
Oder seid ihr auf den Namen des Paulus getauft worden?
Ich danke Gott,
dass ich niemanden von euch getauft habe,
außer Krispus und Gaius,
sodass keiner sagen kann,
ihr seiet auf meinen Namen getauft worden.
Ich habe allerdings auch das Haus des Stephanas getauft.
Ob ich sonst noch jemanden getauft habe,
weiß ich nicht mehr.
Denn Christus hat mich nicht gesandt zu taufen,
sondern das Evangelium zu verkünden,
aber nicht mit gewandten und klugen Worten,
damit das Kreuz Christi nicht um seine Kraft gebracht wird.

Jesus verkündete das Evangelium vom Reich
und heilte im Volk alle Krankheiten und Leiden.

Evangelium
Aus dem heiligen Evangelium nach Matthäus.
Als Jesus hörte, dass Johannes ausgeliefert worden war,
kehrte er nach Galiläa zurück.
Er verließ Nazaret,
um in Kafarnaum zu wohnen, das am See liegt,
im Gebiet von Sebulon und Naftali.
Denn es sollte sich erfüllen,
was durch den Propheten Jesaja gesagt worden ist:
Das Land Sebulon und das Land Naftali,
die Straße am Meer, das Gebiet jenseits des Jordan,
das heidnische Galiläa:
Das Volk, das im Dunkel saß,
hat ein helles Licht gesehen;
denen, die im Schattenreich des Todes wohnten,
ist ein Licht erschienen.
Von da an begann Jesus zu verkünden: Kehrt um!
Denn das Himmelreich ist nahe.
Als Jesus am See von Galiläa entlangging,
sah er zwei Brüder,
Simon, genannt Petrus,
und seinen Bruder Andreas;
sie warfen gerade ihr Netz in den See,
denn sie waren Fischer.
Da sagte er zu ihnen: Kommt her, mir nach!
Ich werde euch zu Menschenfischern machen.
Sofort ließen sie ihre Netze liegen und folgten ihm nach.
Als er weiterging, sah er zwei andere Brüder,
Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus,
und seinen Bruder Johannes;
sie waren mit ihrem Vater Zebedäus im Boot
und richteten ihre Netze her.
Er rief sie
und sogleich verließen sie das Boot und ihren Vater
und folgten Jesus nach.
Er zog in ganz Galiläa umher,
lehrte in den Synagogen,
verkündete das Evangelium vom Reich
und heilte im Volk
alle Krankheiten und Leiden.

Reading 1
First the Lord degraded the land of Zebulun
and the land of Naphtali;
but in the end he has glorified the seaward road,
the land west of the Jordan,
the District of the Gentiles.
Anguish has taken wing, dispelled is darkness:
for there is no gloom where but now there was distress.
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom
a light has shone.
You have brought them abundant joy
and great rejoicing,
as they rejoice before you as at the harvest,
as people make merry when dividing spoils.
For the yoke that burdened them,
the pole on their shoulder,
and the rod of their taskmaster
you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.

I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that all of you agree in what you say,

but that you be united in the same mind and in the same purpose.
For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers and sisters,
by Chloe’s people, that there are rivalries among you.
I mean that each of you is saying,
“I belong to Paul,” or “I belong to Apollos,”
or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.”
Is Christ divided?
Was Paul crucified for you?
Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel,
and not with the wisdom of human eloquence,
so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning.

Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom
and cured every disease among the people.

Gospel
When Jesus heard that John had been arrested,
he withdrew to Galilee.
He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea,
in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet
might be fulfilled:
Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles,
the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light,
on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death
light has arisen.
From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say,
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers,
Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew,
casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen.
He said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.
He walked along from there and saw two other brothers,
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets.
He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father
and followed him.
He went around all of Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness among the people.
