1. Lesung
Lesung aus dem Buch Maleachi:
Seht, der Tag kommt,
er brennt wie ein Ofen:
Da werden alle Überheblichen und alle Frevler zu Spreu
und der Tag, der kommt, wird sie verbrennen,
spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
Weder Wurzel noch Zweig wird ihnen dann bleiben.
Für euch aber, die ihr meinen Namen fürchtet,
wird die Sonne der Gerechtigkeit aufgehen
und ihre Flügel bringen Heilung.

Spielt dem Herrn auf der Leier, *
auf der Leier zu lautem Gesang!
Mit Trompeten und lautem Widderhorn *

In die Hände klatschen sollen die Ströme, *

2. Lesung
Lesung aus dem zweiten Brief des Apostels Paulus
an die Gemeinde in Thessalónich.
Schwestern und Brüder!
Ihr selbst wisst, wie man uns nachahmen soll.
Wir haben bei euch kein unordentliches Leben geführt
und bei niemandem unser Brot umsonst gegessen;
wir haben uns gemüht und geplagt,
Tag und Nacht haben wir gearbeitet,
um keinem von euch zur Last zu fallen.
Nicht als hätten wir keinen Anspruch auf Unterhalt;
wir wollten euch aber ein Beispiel geben,
damit ihr uns nachahmen könnt.
Denn als wir bei euch waren,
haben wir euch geboten:
Wer nicht arbeiten will, soll auch nicht essen.
Wir hören aber,
dass einige von euch ein unordentliches Leben führen
und alles Mögliche treiben, nur nicht arbeiten.
Diesen gebieten wir
und wir ermahnen sie in Jesus Christus, dem Herrn,
in Ruhe ihrer Arbeit nachzugehen
und ihr eigenes Brot zu essen.
Evangelium
Aus dem heiligen Evangelium nach Lukas.
In jener Zeit,
als einige darüber sprachen,
dass der Tempel
mit schön bearbeiteten Steinen
und Weihegeschenken geschmückt sei,
sagte Jesus:
Es werden Tage kommen,
an denen von allem, was ihr hier seht,
kein Stein auf dem andern bleibt,
der nicht niedergerissen wird.
Sie fragten ihn: Meister, wann wird das geschehen
und was ist das Zeichen, dass dies geschehen soll?
Er antwortete: Gebt Acht, dass man euch nicht irreführt!
Denn viele werden unter meinem Namen auftreten
und sagen: Ich bin es!
und: Die Zeit ist da. –
Lauft ihnen nicht nach!
Wenn ihr von Kriegen und Unruhen hört,
lasst euch nicht erschrecken!
Denn das muss als Erstes geschehen;
aber das Ende kommt noch nicht sofort.
Dann sagte er zu ihnen:
Volk wird sich gegen Volk
und Reich gegen Reich erheben.
Es wird gewaltige Erdbeben
und an vielen Orten Seuchen und Hungersnöte geben;
schreckliche Dinge werden geschehen
und am Himmel wird man gewaltige Zeichen sehen.
Aber bevor das alles geschieht,
wird man Hand an euch legen und euch verfolgen.
Man wird euch den Synagogen und den Gefängnissen ausliefern,
vor Könige und Statthalter bringen um meines Namens willen.
Dann werdet ihr Zeugnis ablegen können.
Nehmt euch also zu Herzen,
nicht schon im Voraus für eure Verteidigung zu sorgen;
denn ich werde euch die Worte und die Weisheit eingeben,
sodass alle eure Gegner nicht dagegen ankommen
und nichts dagegen sagen können.
Sogar eure Eltern und Geschwister,
eure Verwandten und Freunde werden euch ausliefern
und manche von euch wird man töten.
Und ihr werdet um meines Namens willen
von allen gehasst werden.
Und doch wird euch kein Haar gekrümmt werden.
Wenn ihr standhaft bleibt,
werdet ihr das Leben gewinnen.
Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reading 1
Lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven,
when all the proud and all evildoers will be stubble,
and the day that is coming will set them on fire,
leaving them neither root nor branch,
says the LORD of hosts.
But for you who fear my name, there will arise
the sun of justice with its healing rays.
Responsorial Psalm

Sing praise to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and melodious song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
sing joyfully before the King, the LORD.

Reading 2
Brothers and sisters:
You know how one must imitate us.
For we did not act in a disorderly way among you,
nor did we eat food received free from anyone.
On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day
we worked, so as not to burden any of you.
Not that we do not have the right.
Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you,
so that you might imitate us.
In fact, when we were with you,
we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work,
neither should that one eat.
We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a
disorderly way,
by not keeping busy but minding the business of others.
Such people we instruct and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly
and to eat their own food.

Stand erect and raise your heads
because your redemption is at hand.

Gospel
While some people were speaking about
how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings,
Jesus said, “All that you see here–
the days will come when there will not be left
a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”
Then they asked him,
“Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
He answered,
“See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,
‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’
Do not follow them!
When you hear of wars and insurrections,
do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end.”
Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.
“Before all this happens, however,
they will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”
